Storm Update - Final Restoration of Electricity near for Remaining PUD 3 Customers

(UPDATE at 11:00 PM – May 3, 2010) – A handful of Mason County PUD No. 3 customers are without electricity tonight as linemen work to repair the damage caused by today’s early spring windstorm. Just over 3,300 customers were without service at one point this morning due to a tree that damaged power lines in the Taylor Towne area south of Shelton.

The remaining areas affected by today’s storm and their estimated times of restoration include:

The immediate vicinity of the damaged utility pole near Highway 101 – 1:00 AM
Collier Road – 1 AM
Intersection of Lynch and Arcadia Roads – 1 AM

A major project is the repair damage to a distribution pole along Highway 101 south of Shelton.

The largest impact on customers today was loss of power to two major power lines from the Skookum substation in the Kamilche area. The two circuits lost energy at approximately 11:20 this morning after a tree fell over lines along the southbound lanes of Highway 101 near Taylor Towne. The tree snapped off ten feet of the top of a utility pole and damaged lines in the area. Most customers had service restored by 2:45 PM.

PUD 3 used its redundant system design to switch power from other substations to bring as many customers online as possible while repairs were made to damaged portions of the electricity distribution network.

Meanwhile, electricity was restored at about 1:00 PM to about 130 customers in the Grapeview area after a tree was blown onto PUD power lines. The outage was reported just past 10:00 AM.
