Redundant Distribution System Being Used to Provide Service During Major Line Repairs along Highway 101
(5/3/2010 - 2:20 PM) Mason County PUD No. 3 linemen are working to restore electricity to nearly 2,400 customers south and east of Shelton following the loss of power to two major feeder lines from the Skookum substation in the Kamilche area. Initially, 3,300 customers were affected by the incident.
The two circuits lost energy at approximately 11:20 this morning after a tree fell over lines along the southbound lanes of Highway 101 near Fredson Road. The tree snapped off ten feet from the top of a utility pole and damaged lines in the area. PUD 3 is estimating that the earliest that electricity may be fully restored is 8:00 PM.
PUD 3 is using its redundant system design to switch power from other substations to bring as many customers online as possible while repairs are being made to damaged portions of the electricity distribution network.
The areas generally affected by this event include:
Taylor Towne, Cole Rd (Fawn Lk, Shadowood), Bay East, Totten Shores, Arcadia Shores, Hwy 101 North, portion of Hillcrest (City of Shelton), Arcadia Rd, a portion of Lynch Rd, and Arcadia Pt.
As PUD crews replace the damaged pole and lines, southbound motorists are urged to proceed through the area with caution.
Meanwhile, electricity was restored at about 1:00 PM to about 130 customers in the Grapeview area after a tree was blown onto PUD power lines. The outage was reported just past 10:00 AM. The areas affected included Thomas Road, Island View Road and Orchard Lane.
There are also a few minor, isolated outages that PUD 3 personnel are working on at this time.
