Three-Phase motors need protection

Most residential accounts are small electrical users and have what is called "single-phase" service.

However, several businesses and larger entities, as well as a few homes, have what is known as "three-phase" service.

It is important that adequate protection is provided for three-phase motors (such as larger well pump motors). One protective device required by the National Electric Code is a single phasing, reverse phasing, or low voltage protector.

This protection can be accomplished through the installation of a simple, solid-state apparatus. Without it the motors can be damaged if only partial power occurs. An electrician can provide you with more information.
