Mission and Vision

Mason County PUD No. 3 is a publicly owned utility serving nearly 30,000 customers. Its service area covers 567 square miles, most of which is in Mason County. Electric service is also provided to small areas of south Kitsap, east Grays Harbor, and southwest Pierce Counties.

The Mason County PUD No. 3 Telecommunications Mission

The Mason County PUD No. 3 telecommunications mission is to provide owner-ratepayers with community and economic development opportunities through advanced telecommunications services.

  • Provide reliable and safe telecommunications services.
  • Provide wholesale telecommunications services including voice, video and data products on an open access basis, as authorized under Washington State law.
  • Extend deployment and use of advanced telecommunications services for the benefit of the PUD 3 owner-ratepayers.
  • Support efforts that promote community involvement, business and governmental cooperation, improved rural education, health services, and economic development.

The Vision of Mason County PUD No. 3 Telecommunications

The vision of Mason County PUD No. 3 telecommunications is “a connected Mason County!”

PUD 3 will reach this vision through the following steps:

  • Promote the development and adoption of appropriate telecommunications rules, regulations and practices.
  • Promote the financing and funding of advanced telecommunications development.
  • Continue deployment of advanced telecommunications services to the community.
  • Prepare special programs for delivery of broadband services to less densely populated areas of Mason County.
  • Promote the establishment of telecommunications-intense industries;

Objectives of Mason County PUD No. 3 Telecommunications

Work with owner-ratepayers, governments, businesses and other organizations in four main areas of activity:

Telecommunications Deployment – Based on feasibility, community interest and economic development potential, build backbone and distribution for advanced telecommunication services to underserved areas of the PUD 3 service area.

Telecommunications Policy and Regulation – Have policies that promote the access and use of advanced telecommunications services by all sections of the community. Have effective management and oversight to promote good business practices.

Telecommunications Business Development - Work with telecommunications businesses and industry partners to share expertise and experience and to promote effective use of technology.

Telecommunications for Social and Economic Development - Work with development partners to promote advanced telecommunications services to enhance social and economic development of individuals and communities.
